How do I know when it’s time?
End of life care and decision-making are deeply emotional experiences, as our pets are cherished members of our families. To help determine if humane euthanasia is the right choice for your beloved pet consider evaluating their quality of life. Below is a description of key aspects to assess whether your pet is still happy and finding joy in life.
The quality-of-life scale seen below is known as the HHHHHMM scale; these letters stand for Hurt, Hunger, Hydration, Hygiene, Happiness, Mobility, and “More good days than bad days.”
To use this scale, score your pet from 1-10 for each category; 10 being ideal.
*A total over 35 points represents acceptable life quality to continue with pet hospice.
